BUGLIONI: I WANT CLEVERLY AFTER DOMINATING BRITAIN

Buglioni: I want Cleverly after dominating Britain

Wise Guy wants Lonsdale belt for keeps

Frank Buglioni wants the Lord Lonsdale belt for keeps before landing a showdown with WBA Light-Heavyweight king Nathan Cleverly as he defends his British title against Ricky Summers at The O2 in London on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

Buglioni closes the curtain on a great season of boxing on Sky Sports – and with the new season set to kick-off at The O2 in September, the 28 year old is setting his sights on putting the crown on the line here again and take another step to owning the belt outright.

Buglioni took the title from Hosea Burton in a fight of the year contender in November, a fight that shone a light on the 175lbs division that had been in the shadows for some time, and a rematch could be the perfect way for Buglioni to place the Lord Lonsdale belt on his mantelpiece before he hunts down Welshman Cleverly.

“Winning the Lord Lonsdale belt outright hasn’t been done at Light-Heavyweight for a long time,” said Buglioni. “The guys that have won it recently – Nathan Cleverly, Tony Bellew, Clinton Woods – they’re great fighters, so it’s brilliant to be in those types of names and to win it outright would be a real honour. But if something bigger presents itself, you have to look at the bigger picture.

“I know what I have got to do to beat Hosea. I’ve taken his best and his hard shots, but that wasn’t me at my best. Now I am the champion, he’s got to leave Manchester and come to my home town where he’d be outnumbered and he’s got the demons in his head now as he knows he can be KO’d by me and he knows he can’t hurt me.

“I’d love that fight and I think the fans would but I don’t think it would be as entertaining as the first one, it’d be more one-sided and get him out of there early. I have to fight my mandatory around September so if it’s not Hosea, he might not get the fight.

“There’s no Light-Heavyweight in Britain that can beat me, including Cleverly, so line them up. It’s a new chapter in my career. Hosea is above British level and I beat him so I think that shows how good I am. I want to win the Lord Lonsdale belt outright and then move onto European and World honours.

“Stieglitz is the European champion and that’d be a great fight but I’m not sure that going to Germany against a German fighter is something what I would want. Bringing him to London would be great, but he’d want a lot of money.

“Nathan has got a lovely jab and a good work rate, but he can go macho and get drawn into a war and there’s flaws in him. He trained with Don Charles for a few weeks so Don knows him inside-out which is bad for Nathan. Don is a real scholar of the sport and when he knows you inside-out, he knows how to unlock the door.”

Buglioni’s clash with Summers is part of a huge night of action in London as Team GB Rio Olympic bronze medal man Joshua Buatsi makes his hotly-anticipated pro debut.

Reece Bellotti goes for his first pro title against Jamie Speight with the WBC International Silver Featherweight strap on the line, Ted Cheeseman also fights for his first belt against English Super-Welterweight champion Matthew Ryan in a British title eliminator and there’s a rivalry brewing between London Cruiserweights Isaac Chamberlain and Lawrence Okolie who both have six rounders on the slate.

Welterweight talent Conor Benn returns from injury and there’s action for Jake Ball, Danny Dignum, Craig Richards and Morgan Jones.

WOOD TO TAKE ON UNDEFEATED WELSHMAN REED

Newly-crowned Cage Warriors 135lb champion Nathaniel Wood will take on undefeated Welshman Josh Reed in his maiden title defence

Cage Warriors 86 in London will feature a bantamweight battle of Britain as newly-crowned 135lb champion Nathaniel Wood puts his title on the line for the first time against undefeated Welshman Josh ‘Crazy Horse’ Reed on September 16.

After kicking off his pro career with four straight submission victories, Reed signed for Cage Warriors and added three more wins to his perfect professional record, defeating Ben Rees (TKO), Martin Sheridan (decision) and Gavin Kelly (KO) to set up his title tilt against Wood.

Londoner Wood became the first man from the capital to capture Cage Warriors gold when he knocked out Swiss contender Marko Kovacevic at Cage Warriors 84 in London earlier this month. ‘The Prospect’ is riding a three-fight win streak, defeating Chase Morton (submission), Vaughan Lee (TKO) and Kovacevic (KO) inside the distance.

In addition to the Title fight, Nathaniel Wood’s teammate, Corrin Eaton, will make his Cage Warriors debut when he faces Dean Trueman, who will be looking to get back to his winning ways after having his 3 fight win streak snapped at CW82 in Liverpool.

Also set for action on the card is Welsh welterweight contender Lew Long, who is coming off of three first round victories.

Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan said: “After two sell out shows at our London home in February and June, we’re delighted to head back to the Indigo at The O2 in September.

“Nathaniel has said the belt will not leave his home town, but Josh will bring a lot of support from Wales and is unbeaten as a professional, so I’m anticipating a strong, competitive fight.”

BROOK VOWS TO BOX AGAIN IN 2017

Brook vows to box again in 2017

The Special One declares eye socket op a success

Photo: Lawrence Lustig (Matchroom)

Kell Brook has vowed to return to the ring by the end of the year after a successful operation on his fractured right eye socket.

Brook sustained the injury in his clash with Errol Spence at Bramall Lane in Sheffield in May where he lost his IBF Welterweight crown to the American in front of a huge crowd at the home of Sheffield United FC.

The Special One was hampered by the eye in the closing stages of the high class contest which ended in an 11th round stoppage win for the unbeaten challenger.

Brook had surgery on the injury on Friday (June 16), which was a carbon copy of the left-eye socket fracture he suffered in his lash with Kazakh ace Gennady Golovkin, and the Sheffield ace is making fine progress in his recovery and has targeted a return to the ring this winter.

“I spoke to the surgeon and he said that the operation was a big success and simpler than the last one,” said Brook. “It took half the time of the first one and there’s very little swelling and it looks great. The last scan I had revealed that the healing has started really well and the bone already looks strong so I expect to make a full recovery and I want to fight again in 2017.

“I was bitterly disappointed by the loss at Bramall Lane. Losing my belt was gutting but I’m glad I accepted to fight Spence and help be part of an event that Sheffield will remember and be proud of.

“I still feel that I have a massive future in the sport. I will talk to my team in the coming weeks about what we can do next and I am looking to get back into camp this summer.”

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT RYAN HATTON – SIGNED

FRANK WARREN SIGNS HIGHLY RATED LIGHT-HEAVYEWEIGHT PROSPECT
RYAN HATTON

By Jason Lowe

Frank Warren is delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated Tamworth Light-Heavyweight prospect Ryan Hatton.

Hatton, a Loughborough University Sports Science graduate, enjoyed a glittering amateur career, winning 50 of his 60 bouts in the unpaid code and picking up six National titles at Heavyweight and two Great Britain Gold medals, as well as captaining his country.

21-year-old Hatton is trained by Tom Chaney at the Hall Green ABC in Birmingham alongside British Middleweight Champion Tommy Langford.

“I’m thrilled to have signed my first professional contract with Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren,” said Hatton. “I have a solid amateur background and I feel now is the perfect time to begin my journey in the pro ranks.

“I have a brilliant team behind me and I can’t wait to make my professional debut later this year. Tom Chaney is one of the best coaches in the country and I’m very fortunate to have him in my corner.

“The Hall Green ABC is an excellent gym to be a part of and I learn a lot from Tommy Langford about training drills and making weight, he is very knowledgeable. I learnt my trade at the Tamworth Boxing Club with my coach Alan Keast and my dad Tim Hatton, I owe a lot to the both of them.

“Frank is known around the World for building young fighters up and getting them the right fights at the right time. Boxing has been my life since I was a kid and the ultimate dream is to win a World title one day. For now it is about taking each fight as it comes and winning in style – I want to entertain!

“My best attribute is my footwork, I’m quick and agile and pack a punch. Winning is always the priority but I want to put on a show for the fans who come to watch me. I’ve sparred with the likes of Joshua Buatsi and Ricky Summers and I’m confident I can make a name for myself in the Light-Heavyweight division.”

CHANTELLE CAMERON TURNS PROFESSIONAL

CHANTELLE CAMERON TURNS PROFESSIONAL WITH CYCLONE PROMOTIONS AND DEBUTS ON MAY 26 IN CARDIFF LIVE ON SPIKE UK

FORMER GREAT BRITAIN ELITE AMATEUR BOXER AND WORLD KICK-BOXING CHAMPION CHANTELLE CAMERON HAS TURNED PROFESSIONAL UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF SHANE AND BARRY MCGUIGAN AND BECOMES CYCLONE PROMOTIONS’ FIRST FEMALE SIGNING

Cyclone Promotions are proud to announce the signing of the extremely talented and hard hitting lightweight boxer Chantelle Cameron.

After a tremendously successful amateur boxing career and world titles in Kick-Boxing and Muay Thai Boxing, Cameron turns professional with London-based Cyclone Promotions, with her sights firmly set on becoming a world champion in the professional ranks.

Chantelle will be trained at McGuigan Gym in Wandsworth, London by 2017 BWAA trainer of the year Shane McGuigan and managed by IBHOF member and former WBA world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan.

The lightweight division is full of talent on these shores with the likes of Katie Taylor of Ireland and Natasha Jonas of Liverpool, so there will no doubt be many intriguing fights for Chantelle as a professional. The first step on the ladder comes on Friday May 26 when the Northampton starlet debuts against Poland’s experienced Karina Kopinska at Motorpoint Arena Cardiff. Kopinska was also the opponent for Katie Taylor on her debut so it is clear the team around Chantelle would like to move her at speed. The big Cardiff show is headlined by Andrew Selby’s WBC world flyweight eliminator and Chantelle will make her debut live on SPIKE UK (Freeview Ch. 31, Sky Ch. 160, Virgin Media Ch. 154 and FreeSat Ch. 141) on the televised undercard.

Chantelle Cameron: “I want to establish myself in professional boxing as a genuine force, I want to earn my stripes. I have been training with Shane and his team for well over a month now and I feel like I am learning every day. The training is very intense but I am enjoying it so much and cannot wait for my debut next week in Cardiff. I am ready to go!”

Shane McGuigan: “Chantelle is a great new addition to the gym, she is a boxer with a lot of talent but she also has a good sense of humour and is fun to be around. It is the first time I have worked with a female boxer. It’s no different to be honest, Chantelle has to work equally as hard as the other fighters in the gym and I believe we can get the best out of her.”

Barry McGuigan: “We are all proud of our new signing Chantelle Cameron, our first female boxer on the team. Chantelle is a hard-working, determined person and this combined with her talent I’m sure will lead to success as a professional boxer. Working with Shane’s team at McGuigan Gym will bring Chantelle on a great deal and I can already see improvements. I am looking forward to May 26 where everyone can see what I feel is a future World Champion in Chantelle Cameron.”

Chantelle Cameron Bio

Born 14.05.91

Youngest of 3 children. Has an older brother and sister.

Born in Northampton on May 14th 1991 Chantelle Cameron is the youngest of three siblings and started kick boxing at the tender age of ten. Chantelle quickly achieved success in the sport becoming British and 5 nations champion at just 16 in 2007 and the following year she won the gold medal at both the European and World Kick-Boxing Championships.

After winning gold at the 2009 Muay Thai Boxing Women’s World Championships in Florida Chantelle incorporated boxing training into her training camps. In 2010 following the defence of her British Kick-Boxing title Chantelle decided to move in to the sport of boxing.

After just 3 boxing bouts Chantelle entered the national ABA Championships at 64kg in 2010 and won the tournament at the first attempt. Her performances gathered immediate interest and she was selected to box for England following the conclusion of the tournament.

A silver medal at the 2010 EU Championships followed by a quarter final at the World Championships ensured Chantelle a place on the Great Britain podium squad in 2011.

Due to the limited weight divisions in women’s Olympic boxing Chantelle dropped down to 60kg in 2012 in an attempt to qualify for the London Games. A struggle to become quickly adjusted to the weight meant Chantelle lost out in qualification. In the following years Chantelle won a number of events including a 2015 Rio Test Event. This was still not enough to ensure her qualification for the Rio Olympics and Chantelle cut a frustrated figure once again as she watched from the sidelines as her competitors fought it out for medals.

After consultation with her family members and amateur coach Chantelle decided she wanted to turn professional. After a number of offers were considered Chantelle made the move to Cyclone Promotions and is now training out of McGuigan Gym in Wandsworth and will compete at lightweight.
