RYDER MEETS SIROTKIN IN WORLD TITLE ELIMINATOR

John Ryder faces Andrey Sirotkin in a Final Eliminator for the WBA Super-Middleweight World title at the Copper Box Arena in London on October 27, live on Sky Sports and DAZN in the US.

Islington’s Ryder is back in action following his stunning two-round destruction of Jamie Cox on the Bellew vs. Haye 2 undercard at The O2 in May. It was another explosive statement from ‘The Gorilla’ following his brilliant win over Patrick Nielsen inside five rounds, and now he finds himself just one win away from a dream World title shot.

Russia’s Sirotkin, the current WBA Inter-Continental Champion, sits two places behind Ryder in the rankings at number 5 and is unbeaten in all 15 of his contests, picking up a number of ranking titles from the WBC and WBO along the way.

“It’s great to be boxing back on Sky Sports again and to be headlining in my home town is a proud moment for me,” said Ryder. “That’s going to spur me on to get the win and put me in contention to fight for a World title.

“This is such a big fight for me, I’ve had to be patient off the back of two big wins, but things have fallen in to place now and I’m fully focused. The winner goes on from here and it’s a long, hard road back for the loser.”

Main event on October 27 will be supported by one of the best trade cards of the year. Ted Cheeseman and Asinia Byfield battle it out for the Vacant British Super-Welterweight title in one of the most highly-anticipated domestic matchups of the year. ‘The Big Cheese’ has been making a name for himself in the 154lbs division with notable wins over Carson Jones and most recently Paul Upton.

A fight with rising star Anthony Fowler could await for the winner of the Lord Lonsdale belt. Ryan Doyle looks to build on his shock win over Reece Bellotti as he defends his Commonwealth Featherweight belt against the talented and undefeated Jordan Gill.

Doyle hit the big time when he stopped Bellotti after five epic rounds at York Hall in June and isn’t wasting anytime as he jumps straight into another banger with Dave Coldwell’s 21-0 prospect.

Luke Watkins and Isaac Chamberlain meet in a crunch Cruiserweight contest as both men look to move on from first career losses to rising star Lawrence Okolie and Jake Ball begins life under new trainer Dominic Ingle with a WBA Inter-Continental Light-Heavyweight title fight with Craig ‘Spider’ Richards. There’s action elsewhere from Wokingham Middleweight Felix Cash, Brentwood Super-Featherweight Martin J Ward, Watford Featherweight Reece Bellotti, Canning Town Light-Heavy Charlie Duffield and Mill Hill Heavyweight George Fox.

“This is a wonderful night of boxing – Five 50-50 televised fights, it’s going to be a banger,” said Eddie Hearn.

“John Ryder has a great chance to earn his shot at the World title and Cheeseman vs. Byfield could be domestic Fight of the Year. Doyle vs. Gill, Chamberlain vs. Watkins and Ball vs. Richards are all ‘pick-ems’. Fans on Sky Sports, DAZN and in the arena are in for a great night on October 27.”

Bermondsey puncher says Byfield has talked his way into a title shot

Ted Cheeseman has accused Asinia Byfield of talking his way into their British title fight and says the outspoken Reading man doesn’t deserve a shot at such a prestigious belt.

The bitter Super-Welterweight rivals will battle for the Lonsdale belt at the Copper Box Arena on October 27, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Cheeseman puts his unbeaten 14-fight record on the line when he meets former Southern Area Champion Byfield, and ‘The Big Cheese’ is determined to prove he is levels above ’DGhost’ by dishing out a crushing defeat.

“I’ve wanted this fight for a while because I don’t like the way Byfield conducts himself,” said Cheeseman. “He’s mouthy and always tries to talk his way into big fights. I don’t think he’s worked his way into this position.

“What does Asinia Byfield bring to the table? An unbeaten record? No. A title? No. So what do you want to fight him for? Once I’m done with him no one will even remember who he is.

“He’s managed to talk his way into a big fight but he’s going to get found out massively. He’s done nothing to justify him fighting for a British title and that will show on the night.

“He’s a very awkward opponent. Stylistically, he’s not a good boxer or a good fighter. He’s just awkward and tires to spoil you. But I’m more than ready for this fight. I’ve had some good sparring and I’m ready to take on that type of style.

“He probably thinks the only way he can beat me is by making me angry and forcing me into mistakes. That’s the kind of fight he likes but he hasn’t got into my head at all. I’m going to get in there and fight my type of fight.

“The Light Middleweight division is thriving at the moment and hopefully there’s some big opportunities out there for me after I win the British title.”

Cheeseman vs. Byfield is part of a huge night of action at the Copper Box Arena topped by Islington’s John Ryder taking on undefeated Russian Andrey Sirotkin in a Final Eliminator for the WBA Super-Middleweight World title.

Reading star driven on by the tragic loss of his son

Asinia Byfield is predicting an early night for Ted Cheeseman when the Super-Welterweight rivals clash for the Vacant British title at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday October 27, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Byfield inflicted the first professional defeat on Sam McNess last summer when he defended his Southern Area belt in style, destroying the fan favourite in five brutal rounds at the Copper Box Arena.

Now the Reading star is promising another crushing performance when Bermondsey puncher Cheeseman puts his unbeaten 14-fight record on the line in one of the most eagerly-anticipated domestic fights of the year.

“I see the fight being very one sided,” said Byfield. “One thing is for certain, this will not be going the distance. Ted has never faced a foe like me and he will never face anyone like me again. October 27th is going to be an 18+ bloody and gory affair, he won’t hear the final bell.

“I’m a new breed, a slum dog baby. Every choice and every action in my life has lead me to this moment. Through the darkest valleys I found the light. Among the darkness I found the answers and on October 27th I will answer every question asked of me.

“A fighter like me comes around every century. Ted hasn’t seen the things that I do in the ring, nobody has. I can go front or back foot, fight inside or outside and I’m a thinker as well, whatever it takes to win a fight.”

Byfield says the tragic loss of his eight-month old baby Trayvon Byfield-Griffith in 2016 has inspired him to fight on for all the parents who have experienced the pain of losing a child.

The 29-year-old admitted to losing his way after the family tragedy. His first title shot came in 2016 – when he accepted a fight against Arthur Hermann just days after the death of his son.

He lost his unbeaten record to a controversial points decision before winning the Southern Area strap against Erick Ochieng and announcing himself on the domestic scene with his memorable win over McNess.

“Asinia died the day my son Trayvon died,” added Byfield. “Now I am every parent who has had to experience that horrific event. I am my children, Javaye Archer and Tracell, Tammyha, Trayvon, Tayenha Byfield-Griffith. I am all that’s positive and I feed off of all that’s negative.

“I am the light and strength my son made me, which means I cannot and will not fail. I am proof that even in your most broken form you can still stand tall.”
