Joshua Buatsi will defend his WBA International Light-Heavyweight title against Australia’s Renold Quinlan at The O2 in London on December 22, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Buatsi won the title in spectacular fashion when he destroyed Andrejs Pokumeiko inside one round at The O2 in July before blitzing Frenchman Tony Averlant in the opening round at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle in September.

Quinlan’s second fight in the UK, he took Chris Eubank Jr. ten rounds when they clashed at the Olympia last year.

“I’ve seen bits of Buatsi and he’s nothing special,” said Quinlan. “He hasn’t fought anyone like me yet and I can’t wait to give him a great fight. I’m delighted to be returning to the UK on such a big card and I’ll be putting on a great performance for all my UK fans.”

Buatsi vs. Quinlan is part of a huge night of boxing in the capital.

Main event sees fierce Heavyweight rivals Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora rematch after their Fight of the Year contender in December 2016.

Adaptive Boxing will continue to evolve

The Adapted Boxing Program, which helps people who suffered serious injuries or fight against medical conditions, plans to expand and prosper globally.

The WBC supports this program fully with ongoing activity.

Adapted boxing was established in Britain ten years ago by Colin Wood, who was diagnosed with an eye disease. Its headquarters are located in Leicester Boxing Academy, which was visited by the World Boxing Council, taking advantage of the opportunity to donate equipment and tools.

Three gyms participate in the program. Danny Higgins serves as coordinator, he is an adapted boxer, and resides in Leicester. Also participating are gyms Gary Murray Gym of Scotland and Andrew Bert Gym of Wales. Also Wayne Cox, an adapted boxer, is starting a gym in Manchester and Chris Middleton, a former soldier who lost both legs, is opening a gym in Newcastle. In addition to this, two gyms in London are also interested in supporting and participating.

So far, there have been many successful events in Britain, but there has only been one international event in the Netherlands; However, strong links have already been established with the United States, Australia and Brazil.

A solid objective is to get Adapted Boxing included in the Paralympic Games. To take this step it would be necessary for thirty-four nations to participate in the qualifying processes. Possibilities are being explored to confirm that adapted Boxing can be included in the Invictus Games for former military personnel who suffered injuries and injuries while performing their duties. WBC Cares is supporting the second Special Forces Boxing Tournament in Brighton next month, where special awards will be given.

The rules are being scrutinized carefully and meticulously, and ways are being explored to make the sport more accessible for those who use wheelchairs. Alan Shearer is backing Lewis Ritson to go all the way to the top – and the Newcastle United legend hopes the Lightweight sensation follows his path and packs St. James’ Park for a big fight night.

A star-struck Toon Army mad Ritson met the number nine idol in the build up to his European title clash with Francesco Patera on Saturday night (October 13) and the ‘Sandman’ has sold the Metro Radio Arena out after packing it to the rafters for the first time in June when he destroyed Paul Hyland Jr in a round to win the British title outright.

‘The Sandman’ won the British Lightweight title outright by defeating the previously unbeaten challenger Paul Hyland Jr at the Metro Radio Arena in June and is predicting another destructive performance against Patera.

Gallowgate favourite Shearer knows all about the fanatical support in Newcastle after banging in 206 goals in ten seasons for his boyhood club, and he believes that the fans will soon be roaring him to World title honours on the hallowed turf.

“This will be my first ever fight that I’m attending so there’s no pressure for Lewis!” said Shearer.

“The fans are incredible up in Newcastle. If he keeps on winning then a fight a St James’ Park could happen as Lewis dreams of.

“That buzz when you walk out at St. James’ is special. I never really used to hear the singing on the pitch during the game, when you walked out the atmosphere was loud and that’s when I used to soak it all in but when that whistle went it was game time and I was zoned in.

“I used to stand on the terraces as a fan so to walk out and score in front of your own people is that bit more special. That’s the same for Lewis, but he’s knocking people out!

“It’s been interesting to speak with Lewis and understand how much preparation goes in from his training team to study opponents. When I was playing I knew the strengths and weaknesses of the centre backs and map out in advance how I want the service.”

Shearer and Ritson have a common thread having both played for famed kids’ team Wallsend Boys as kids, and the hitman-turned-pundit thinks the club has played a part in his success – and along with his close bond with his trainer father, could help him stay at the top when he’s there.

“When I was a young boy playing at Wallsend Boys club it taught me a lot. Lewis played there as well and some of that discipline will have no doubt rubbed off on to his game.

“Having his Dad standing there in the corner for each fight must be a proud feeling for the both of them.

“What I would say to Lewis is the easy part is getting to the top, but the hard part is staying there. He’ll have the money, house, holidays and car. The opponents will know more about him and the level is only going to get tougher. It’s not easy and he’ll have to probably come through some tricky moments but he’s got a great team around him.

“I’ll be there ringside and will be the first one to lead the songs when the Blaydon Races comes on.”

‘White Rhino’ targets Lucas Browne showdown in December

David Allen says he needs to beat Samir Nebo in “devastating fashion” if he is to set up a showdown with former WBA Heavyweight ruler Lucas Browne at the end of the year.

‘White Rhino’ returns to action this Saturday at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US, as he takes on the Germany-based Syrian on the undercard of Lewis Ritson’s European title fight against Francesco Patera.

Nebo has only two losses in 13 fights, with all of his wins coming by knockout, but Doncaster’s Allen is confident he can defeat Nebo in a similar style to his brutal stoppage of Nick Webb at The O2 in July.

“I’m going to get Nebo on the hook, and I’m going to smash him,” said Allen. “I will never win another fight on points. None of them will go the distance ever again. I fully anticipate knocking out Samir Nebo inside four rounds.3″

“I’ve seen a few rounds of him. He looks solid, like he knows what he’s doing. He’s just outside the top 100 in the World and it’s another good challenge for me. I see it as a building block towards a big fight hopefully towards the end of the year.”

Allen is eager to take on Australia’s Browne in December if he gets a win in Newcastle and believes a fight with the former World Champion would be another entertaining encounter for his fans.

The potential match-up has been gaining momentum on social media in recent weeks with the pair calling each other out on Twitter.

“He’s old enough to be my dad, but Lucas Browne is a tough, strong, powerful man. I think if the fight happens next, it will be at the right time for me. I’m young, fresh, and I’m coming through.

“He was the Heavyweight Champion of the World, but I’m the future, and I think it would be a fantastic fight. I’ll take the Browne fight in December, I’m ready for it. I need to beat Samir Nebo in devastating fashion. The Lucas Browne fight is the one that excites me.”

MENDY: I’M GOING FOR THE KNOCKOUT

Yvan Mendy believes he should have had a shot at a World title by now and is frustrated that Luke Campbell fought for one before him.

Mendy outpointed Campbell back in 2015 and is aiming to go one better and knockout the Hull fighter when they rematch at Wembley Stadium Connected by EE on Saturday September 22, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Since that win at The 02, Mendy has gone from strength to strength, piling up seven consecutive wins with three of them via stoppage. Along the way he defeated Francesco Patera who will face Newcastle’s Lewis Ritson next month.

The 33-year-old has been the World Boxing Council number one contender for some time as well as having held the organisation’s Silver belt. As such he feels he merits a title shot at this stage of his career.

“I do feel a bit frustrated that I haven’t had a World title opportunity yet,” said Mendy. “He (Campbell) lost to me and yet he was able to fight Linares for the World title! So that does leave me a bit of frustrated.

“You do suffer being a boxer in France, it’s a cultural thing. In England boxing is a part of the culture, over here it just isn’t. I’ve often said to myself if I were English I’d already be World Champion! Or at least I would have had the chance to fight for it.

“At the moment I feel like I’m unbeaten because I haven’t lost for so long. Mentally I have forgotten about my defeats and in my mind when I go in the ring I feel undefeated. I feel as strong as ever.”

Mendy confessed he hasn’t seen much of Campbell since their previous meeting, but he recognised his performance in attempting to win a World title last year was impressive.

“I haven’t watched him too much since the last fight, but I did see the fight against Jorge Linares, but I think that was the only one. He fought very well against Linares, it was close. He was up on one of the scorecards, so he is a good boxer and he has progressed.

“I don’t necessarily see it as a big advantage the fact that I won the first fight, simply because it has been three years since that and we change, all of us. After three years we forget about a loss. I don’t think mentally it will play on his mind because a lot of things happen in that time.

“For me it’s important to win by knockout to make a statement. I’m not here for the sake of it, I’m ready to win this, I want a nice victory.”

Whoever emerges with their hand raised at Wembley will edge closer to a World title chance, the first for Mendy or a second bite at the cherry for Britain’s London 2012 Olympic Gold Medallist.

“The winner should get a shot at the Champion Mikey García, but we will see if he stays at Lightweight. I’ve been waiting for the chance for a while. It’s one of the best weight classes in boxing, it’s very attractive. In each organisation the Champion is a big name at Lightweight, there’s a lot of high-level boxers operating at 135lbs and I’ll show that I belong at the top when I beat Campbell again.”

RITSON TAKES ON PATERA FOR EUROPEAN LIGHTWEIGHT CROWN

Lewis Ritson will face Francesco Patera for the Vacant EBU European Lightweight title at Metro Radio Arena Newcastle on October 13, live on Sky Sports.

Patera is no stranger to fighting on these shores, having lost a close decision to Birkenhead hardman Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd for the WBC International title in 2016. He went on to beat Finland’s Edis Tatli to win the European title in May 2017 before losing out in a rematch later that year.

Ritson gets his shot at European honours after Tatli decided to vacate his belt.

“I’ve dealt with all the top operators at domestic level and now it’s time to announce myself on the European stage,” said Ritson. “I’m feeling unstoppable right now and I’m ready to take on anyone that gets put in front of me. The Metro Radio Arena is my fortress and nobody is beating me in my backyard. The noise my fans make inside the arena is incredible, it’s like there’s two of me in the ring!

“Patera has held the European belt so we know that he poses a real threat and I’ll have to be at my best to get past him. I’ve been told there’s not much between Patera and Tatli in terms of ability and style. Patera looks big at the weight and is a busy fighter, I’m expecting an exciting fight.

“He’s a good opponent, but it’s nothing we don’t think we can handle on the night. I feel like I’m improving with every fight and with the form that I’m in, I’m confident of beating anyone.”

“I was completely blown away with what I saw both in and out of the ring last time we were in Newcastle,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Lewis Ritson has fast become one of the most popular and exciting fighters in British boxing and now he gets an opportunity to challenge for a European title. He has cleared up domestically and this is the next step.
