LUIS ARIAS: I’LL PROVE I’M NO BITCH!

‘Cuba’ wants brutal war with Rosado to take ‘bad taste’ from fan’s mouths

Luis Arias wants to make Gabriel Rosado eat his words and prove he’s not a ‘bitch’ by beating him in a Middleweight war at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, KS on Saturday night, live on DAZN.

Tickets are on sale now from ticketmaster.com starting at just $25! Click here to book!

Arias is back in action for the first time since losing out on points to Daniel Jacobs in New York last November, siting a huge blister as the cause of him having to adopt a defensive approach against the now-IBF World champion who handed him a first career loss in his 19th fight.

When ‘Cuba’ and Rosado met in a press conference to announce the fight in the Big Apple, the pair exchanged harsh words on their respective career – with Rosado’s ‘bitch’ jibe a counter to Arias pointing out the number of losses and KO’s the Philadelphian has suffered – and a $10,000 wager being laid on the bout.

The pair will talk for one final time at today’s press conference in Wichita and Arias expects to hear more of the same, but he’s ready to prove that doubters wrong and show the Jacobs loss has made him a stronger fighter.

“That’s his only stab at me to say that I ran like a bitch against Jacobs,” said Arias. “But I didn’t get KO’d. He’s had two feet against plenty of guys and got KO’d, beaten up badly. I had a little scratch on my face after the Jacobs fight.

“I was physically and mentally ready for the fight and I believed I would win. I made a rookie mistake with my footwear and I learned a lesson the hard way.

“The fact that I was able to get out of that fight against a 190lbs guy with just a scratch, it shows I can compete with the best and it’s time to get my things in order and really prove that I can hang with all the top guys.

“I am putting pressure on myself to erase the bad taste I left last time, that’s the task this weekend. I need to prove that I am not a little bitch. It may have looked like I ran like one but I am not – I had to do that to survive and make the 12 rounds. I am a true warrior and I love the wars, I love to bang it out – I just wasn’t physically capable of doing that in the Jacobs fight.

“I left a sour taste in the mouths of the fans in the Jacobs fight but I am a better and more mature fighter now, I’ve learned from it and I think that this is the fight that changes my career. I’m a warrior, he’s a warrior – it’s going to be bloody but the blood is not going to be mine.

“He’s got a lot of miles on the clock but he’s durable. If I’d had this fight before the Jacobs fight then I would have been readier for that stage, but it didn’t work out that way. I get a fresh chance and a do-over now, and I’m going to do this right this time.”

Arias’ clash with Rosado is part of a huge night of action in Kansas in association with KO Night Boxing with a host of stars and local talents in action.

Brooklyn’s Heavyweight star Jarrell Miller meets fellow unbeaten big-hitter Bogdan Dinu in a crunch clash at the top level of the division, while chief-support provided by the brilliant two-weight World ruler Claressa Shields who looks to add the WBC Middleweight strap to her WBA and IBF crowns against tough Scottish challenger Hannah Rankin.

There’s an all-Mexican clash and a homecoming for Brandon Rios against Ramon Alvarez, brother of ‘Canelo’’, as both men look to make a splash at Welterweight.

Team USA 2016 Olympic bronze medal man Nico Hernandez has raced to 5-0 (4KOs) – the Wichita talent fights for the third time in the Kansas Star Casino and Arena since debuting there in March 2017, unbeaten Wichita Super-Middleweight and police officer Manny Thompson looks to improve his 7-0 record and Las Vegas’ Jeremy Nichols meets Wichita’s Jeremiah Page at Middleweight.

Unbeaten contender Anthony Sims Jr. makes a move to Super-Middleweight and Brooklyn’s exciting newcomer to the Middleweight scene Nikita Ababiy, fresh from a first round KO on debut in Chicago earlier in the month, is also in action.

SHIELDS: RANKIN WON’T STOP MY PATH, I WAS GIFTED TO BE A BOXER

SHIELDS: RANKIN WON’T STOP MY PATH TO UNDISPUTED

T-Rex’ sets her sights on unifying the Middleweight division in 2019

Claressa Shields is aiming for a punishing win over Hannah Rankin at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane KS, on Saturday night, live on DAZN – to continue her destructive path to being the undisputed World Middleweight champion.

Tickets are on sale now from ticketmaster.com starting at just $25! Click here to book!

Shields defends her WBA and IBF crowns against Rankin with the vacant WBC strap also up for grabs. The WBC crown was in the hands of Christina Hammer, whom Shields was slated to meet this weekend in a unification blockbuster for all four belts, with the German also owning the WBO belt.

Shields has brushed off the disappointment of not facing Hammer and the two-time Olympic Gold medalist has itchy knuckles in preparing to meet the Scot Rankin, who is in her second World title fight – with DAZN showcasing a third Women’s World title bout in it’s third US show following Lightweight World title wins for Jessica McCaskill in Chicago and Katie Taylor in Boston in October.

“I’m thrilled to be able to continue my road to undisputed this weekend,” said Shields. “Christina has first in line when I win the belt on Saturday, it’s not a fight that we are looking to avoid. If she’d been fit to face me then that would be the fight this weekend. I wanted that fight bad.

“I felt that when we did the phone interview and we announced that we were fighting, I sensed in her tone that something was wrong, that she wasn’t as excited as I was about the fight. She didn’t seem happy, and as a champion I sensed something was wrong and I was right as she was sick. As soon as she comes back, we can fight.

“Hannah has been Christina’s toughest sparring partner so I am going to make her pay just for that. It’s not a let down for me, just getting in the ring and being able to fight is a joy to me, it makes me happy. Hannah has turned down another fight to take this shot and we’re fighting as a co-main event on DAZN, so it should be fun.”

Shields is not content with dominance at 160lbs – and the Michigan ace can see a return to Super-Middleweight where Alicia Napoleon, who defeated Rankin in August to defend her WBA belt at 168lbs, is a target along with the other champions.

‘T-Rex’ is also open to dropping to Super-Welterweight and inviting Welterweight ruler Cecilia Braekhus to move up in a bout to crown the pound-for-pound number one in Women’s boxing.

“None of the girls at 168lbs want to fight me,” said Shields. “We’ve offered the fight to Alicia many times and fights to so many of them, they’ve all said I’m too big and they are too little, then they say we don’t offer good money – but we have TV and we’re offering good money for sure.

“Alicia just wants to stay unbeaten and protected, I can’t even name any other fighters that she’s fought other than Hannah as I wouldn’t be approved by the commission to fight some of those girls.

“I think I can go as low as 154lbs and I would do that to fight Cecilia for the pound-for-pound spot. I don’t want to go to 147lbs as I would only be able to win the fight and not go on to defend the belts. She can keep her belts, I just want the pound-for-pound spot – she can have the belts and be number two, I’m number one. We can meet at 154lbs, that would be huge.”

Shields’ clash with Rankin is part of a huge night of action in Kansas in association with KO Night Boxing with a host of stars and local talents in

action.

Brooklyn’s Heavyweight star Jarrell Miller meets fellow unbeaten big-hitter Bogdan Dinu in a crunch clash at the top level of the division.

Middleweight contenders Luis Arias and Gabriel Rosado clash in what promises to be a real war as the pair look to gatecrash the lucrative top table, and there’s an all-Mexican clash and a homecoming for Brandon Rios against Ramon Alvarez, brother of ‘Canelo’’, as both men look to make a splash at Welterweight.

Unbeaten Light-Heavyweight contender Anthony Sims Jr. and Brooklyn’s exciting newcomer to the Middleweight scene Nikita Ababiy, fresh from a first round KO on debut in Chicago earlier in the month are also in action.

Heavyweight Round Up: Fury, Whyte, Joshua

By Jon Sutton

Fury V Seferi – 9th June

OK let’s face it, this is a warm up bout.

Seferi does hold some power, but will he land clean? Doubtful.

A man of Fury’s size is difficult to hit as it is but Tyson is notoriously awkward for a big man.

And even if Seferi does land clean, he is the much smaller man. He was only considered powerful as a Cruiserweight – the division in which he last fought just two fights ago.

To Fury’s credit, he will bring more than a size advantage Saturday night though. Since he beat Klitschko, went to hell and back with depression, then returned to the gym, Fury has lost a ton of weight and shown a ton of improvement in terms of speed, technique and movement – so don’t expect to see him in any trouble as he dances towards victory in the MEN tomorrow night.

Speaking of which… you boys planning on doing the business tomorrow night… or the Macarena?

UPDATED:

Well what can we say… it WAS just a warm up bout afterall! Sefer Seferi retired after four rounds of very little punishment with his chin held high – and relatively undamaged – despite eating a big uppercut that forced his decision. Fury stated that he could have ended it in ten seconds but chose to get a few rounds under his belt instead. They hugged. They collected their pay cheques. Then they went home to their families.

Whyte V Parker – 28th July

Image: Sky Sports (click for more info)

Dillian Whyte, the man who shook Anthony Joshua both in and out of the ring, has lined up a fight against Joseph Parker, the only man to take AJ the distance.

Whilst it never makes good boxing sense to use maths for these equations, you can be certain that if Whyte knocks him out, he’ll stick that front and centre on his showreel as he hunts for a Joshua rematch.

So how could this fight go?

Whyte rocked AJ, Parker didn’t… Round 1 to Whyte. Parker went the distance though, Whyte didn’t… Round 2 to Parker.

After that, it’s anyone’s guess. But one thing we can predict is that Joseph Parker’s boxer style & granite chin will blend perfectly with Dillian Whyte’s move-in-and-throw-bombs style.

Why didn’t we think of this fight before?

Joshua V Povetkin/Wilder

In short, negotiations for both fights are ongoing.

Povetkin looks likely to sign in the next 36 hours, for a bruising battle with AJ, in a UK stadium, this September.

Wilder, whilst looking less of a certainty, is expected to happen in February, once the purse and the location can be agreed by both parties. But this could happen even sooner – Eddie Hearn expects it to be agreed within the next month.
